Restoration and insurance

Fire, flood and storm electrical restoration in Edmonton

Licensed Alberta electrical contractor for restoration work: make-safe, temporary power, assessment, a scope your adjuster can use, and a permitted rebuild to the current code.

Electrical restoration is our every-week work

After a fire, a flood, a sewer backup or a storm, the electrical system is the first thing that has to be made safe and the last thing inspected before people move back in. MNR Electric does both ends and everything between, as the electrical sub-trade for Edmonton’s restoration companies and directly for property owners and property managers. Your insurer decides what is covered; we make the electrical safe, permitted, inspected and documented.

How a restoration job runs

01

Make safe

The fire department or utility often pulls the meter. We isolate damaged circuits, cap feeds and set temporary power and heat under a temporary permit so cleanup and inspection can start.

02

Assess and scope

We identify what was submerged, heat-damaged or smoke-contaminated, then price the repair in the line-item format your adjuster or restoration contractor expects, with photos.

03

Rebuild to code

We pull the City of Edmonton electrical permit and rebuild to the 2024 Canadian Electrical Code, in force in Alberta since April 2025, which can include AFCI, GFCI and panel-location upgrades.

04

Inspect and reconnect

The City inspects, the utility reconnects, and we hand over the passed inspection record for the claim file.

What gets replaced, and why

After a flood

Anything that was under water is replaced, not reused: panels, breakers, receptacles, switches and wiring with wet insulation. Corrosion starts immediately and a dried-out breaker is not a safe breaker.

After a fire

Heat-damaged conductors, melted devices and smoke-contaminated equipment are replaced. Circuits that look fine are tested before they are energized.

After a storm

Service masts, meter bases and overhead connections are the usual casualties. We coordinate the utility disconnect and reconnect with the repair.

For restoration contractors and adjusters

We are a trusted electrical sub-trade for WINMAR, BELFOR, First General, Lydale/Canstar, Pure Restoration and Antrim. WCB in good standing, permits on every job, and the scope, photos, invoices and permit record delivered in the format your file needs. Where your adjuster approves direct payment, we can invoice your restoration contractor or insurer.

For property owners

You can ask for MNR by name. Alberta insurers must tell you that you may choose your own service provider; your adjuster still approves the scope. We explain what we found, what has to change, and what is a code upgrade rather than damage, so the conversation with your adjuster is a short one.
