Case study

Emergency power for a hospital during the Fort McMurray wildfire

May 2016. The wildfire that forced one of the largest evacuations in Alberta’s history also took the power to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre. MNR Electric was there in a hurry.

The call

The wildfire began on 1 May 2016 southwest of Fort McMurray and grew into one of the largest evacuations in Alberta’s history. When the hospital lost power, patients were at risk and the building had to keep running. MNR Electric mobilized emergency temporary power to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre and kept it running while the city was under evacuation.

What we did

01

Emergency temporary power

Generators and distribution connected quickly and safely to keep critical systems running.

02

Lighting and speaker systems

Once the site was stable, we reinstalled the hospital’s lighting and speaker systems.

03

Hospital-grade site rules

The whole project ran under the strict safety and cleanliness rules an occupied health-care site demands.

Why it matters for your project

Health-care construction has its own rules: infection control, continuity of critical power, and inspectors who expect the paperwork before the work. MNR Electric’s electricians are trained for it and our equipment is dependable under pressure. The same crews and equipment back our 2-hour mobilization contracts today.
