The questions we get on the phone every week, answered once.
MNR Electric publishes its rates: $110 per hour, a $330 minimum service call, and a $495 emergency call-out, with travel and a stocked van included. Larger jobs get a free, detailed, itemized estimate.
Emergency calls are answered 24 hours a day and we are generally on site in Edmonton within the hour. Temporary power and heat can be mobilized in under two hours.

Almost always. Under Alberta’s Safety Codes Act a permit is required to install, alter or add to an electrical system; a like-for-like device swap is the usual exception. Permits are issued to a Master Electrician, and we pull one on every job.
The City of Edmonton (or the municipality’s safety codes agency) inspects at the stages the permit requires. We book the inspections and hand you the passed record.
It needs attention. Aluminum branch wiring can be made safe with approved connectors or replaced; knob-and-tube is usually replaced because insurers increasingly decline it. We can assess and quote both.
Homeowners can take out a homeowner permit for some work in their own home, but not for main service or panel work, and the inspection still applies. Rental, commercial and insurance work needs a licensed contractor.
The meter is often pulled by the fire department or utility. We isolate damaged circuits, set temporary power and lighting for cleanup, assess what has to be replaced, then rebuild under permit and get it inspected before reconnection.
No. Submerged panels, breakers, receptacles and wiring with wet insulation are replaced. Corrosion starts immediately and the equipment cannot be certified safe.
Yes. Alberta insurers must tell you that you may choose your own service provider. Your adjuster approves the scope and estimate; we write both in the format they expect.
We provide your adjuster with photos, an itemized scope and the permit record, and where direct payment is approved we can invoice your restoration contractor or insurer. Only a licensed adjuster can adjust the claim itself.
Depends on your policy’s bylaw or code-upgrade coverage. We separate damage repair from code-required upgrades on the estimate so your adjuster can answer quickly.
Yes. Most of our commercial work is in buildings that stay open: schools, retail, multi-family and health care. Disruptive work is scheduled after hours and cutovers are phased.
From a single home to a regional hospital. In 2016 we supplied emergency temporary power to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray during the wildfire.
A standing agreement with a guaranteed response time and agreed rates for temporary power, heat and emergency electrical. Restoration firms, property managers and institutions use them so the first phone call is the only one they make.
